Summer Weight Loss

It’s summertime. Time for barbeques, picnics, family vacations and trips to the beach. It’s also time to pull out that swimsuit of yours. Are you feeling a little self conscious? Most of us do when swimsuit season is here. This is due to the fact that a lot of us have packed on a few pounds over the winter and we need to get back into shape. The question is, how? With all of the tempting offerings from all of those barbeques, picnics and graduation parties you may be wondering if summer weight loss is even possible. Yes it is and it is a lot easier than you think!

One of the key elements involved in any weight loss program is eating a healthy diet. Don’t let temptation sabotage your weight loss dreams. There are plenty of healthy foods you can eat that are full of flavor and will keep those cravings for fatty foods at bay. Instead of that burger or steak, try some grilled chicken or fish. Add flavor to the chicken or fish with various spices, but avoid salt if you can. Instead of potato chips have a baked potato. You can top it with fat free sour cream, low fat cheese or some salsa. There is nothing better on a hot summer day than a bowl of fresh fruit to satisfy your sweet tooth. One important thing to remember when out in the hot sun is to drink lots of water. Water is a great weight loss aid, it helps you feel full and is an essential part of keeping you healthy. One thing you should definitely avoid is alcoholic beverages, they are just empty calories.

Eating a healthy diet is just half the battle in your summer weight loss program. You need to get moving to eliminate body fat and build those muscles! The most important thing when choosing an exercise regimen is finding one that you don’t mind doing, at least when you first start out. If you absolutely dread the exercise, then you will not stick to it! If you really lack discipline and need some kind of motivation, perhaps you should try to find an exercise partner. Having someone to exercise with makes it a little easier to handle. Also, try not to weigh yourself too often, it will only discourage you.

Summer weight loss can be achieved if you can keep focused. Stay positive and realistic, remembering that it won’t happen overnight. Eating a healthy diet and sticking to a regular exercise program will not only get you in shape for summer, but it will keep you fit for years to come.
